I moved into a house of international and American girls which I am currently managing. Thought I'd give you a peek into the last two hours and my interactions with some of our residents.
I woke up at 6am to exercise with one of the girls, but had a nice long hour quiet time as she never emerged from her room. Guess JC is the best resident to have around, huh?
Said a quick goodbye to Kristie, who is headed over to the Retirement community where she serves food to the residents.
I, then, chit chatted with Tiona, the new Associate Director of International Students at the University, over breakfast. She's confused about our weather here. I think anyone who isn't from Western Oregon would be. It keeps looking like it's going to rain but then it doesn't. I told her in a month all that will change. She, also, told me the visiting scholar, Viv, and her son, J., had returned from traveling the night before and she had helped them order a pizza. When they picked it up, Viv and J. were surprised. "Oh ... this is what sausage looks like." They had wanted pepperoni. (I explained that this could be because the sausage in China is red and the texture looks a lot like pepperoni.)
A little while later, J. came running down the stairs and threw himself into the living room chair. You'd think he was angry or something, but he's not. He's just a regular 7 year old boy full of energy. I can hear him stomping around all over the house or yelling out as he did this morning,"Mom, where are you?" Or his mother making the remark to him, "J., You haven't brushed your teeth yet!"
HY just said goodbye as she walked out the door for classes. She told me that she and her friends are going to reschedule their watching of the Chinese military parade to this weekend so they won't need to use the living room tonight.
China: Just a small memory. I bought some bread for breakfast but then felt called to buy some for the student who was coming to pick me up. "Perhaps he hasn't eaten breakfast yet," I thought. It was an early morning after all. Sure enough, when he arrived he said he hadn't eaten anything yet and took the bread, which was gone in minutes.
