Throughout my time at GFU, my desire has been to see students,
themselves, taking the lead in this ministry. It is far more
important, I have noticed, to have students leading students rather
than Ping-Yi and I doing so. Yet, it seems we have so few students
who are willing to make this commitment. We recently partnered with
the school so that now instead of having a Bible study on a Thursday
or Friday night, we help with a new evening International Chapel
sponsored by the school. As I sat down at a table of International
students and American students during International Chapel, I realized
that my prayer had finally been answered. There were quite a few
international students present in total. Indeed, of about 35
students, almost half were international, and the make-up of the group
as a whole was multi-ethnic with many Asian Americans and Mexican
Americans present out of the half that were American. These American
students, as we shared in groups about their reactions to what the
speaker had said, all shared their testimonies of how God had answered
the desires of their hearts and and lead them to GFU through a series
of incredible and normal events. They were just telling their story, but the
international students present could not have doubted the evidence of
God in the lives of their peers. I realized after that that here was
what I had been waiting for. I had done nothing except to help
organize the event, and yet, there were American Christian students
building relationships with international students and sharing what
God is doing in their lives.
